DESCRIPTION

The hospital working environment is complex and demanding and can pose significant risks to staff safety. The impact of poor occupational health and safety (OHS) is felt not only by affected staff but also by the patients they are treating.

Several conditions were noted as at-risk environment due to OHS management system and program are not given sufficient priority in public hospitals, such as:

  • A culture of accepting OHS risk
  • Resources not always available for hospital staff to consistently comply with OHS policy and procedures, and work safely
  • Inadequate OHS information provided to staff
  • Insufficient training provided to staff and managers
  • Key issues include inadequate incident reporting systems, inconsistent follow up and investigation of OHS incidents

Therefore it is important for the Management of hospitals to equip their staff with proper OHS Management System and program as well as professional competency requirement.

This training and certification program covers all aspects of the competency based assessments as required by the Agency of National Certification of Profession (Badan Nasional Sertifikasi Profesi/ BNSP), Re: SKKNI No. 42/MEN/III/2008 (Cluster for OHS Specialist for hospitals).

 

OBJECTIVE

To equip participants with health workers in protecting against occupational hazards and exposure to pathogens in the hospital setting. The specific objects are as follows:

  • To assist health workers in protecting themselves against occupational exposure to pathogens
  • To reduce the rate of injuries and illness due to needle sticks and exposure to blood and body fluids
  • To strengthen knowledge of disposal systems for sharps and other infectious waste
  • To increase awareness about personal and hospital hygiene, infection control, and good health for hospital staff
  • To increase the knowledge and skills of hospital staff on electrical and fire safety
  • To increase health workers’ knowledge on safe handling of chemicals
  • To improve the safety of health workers working in laboratory and radiology

PARTICIPANTS

This useful and especially designed course is beneficial for Hospital OHS and Security Officers/ Supervisors and those related to overall OHS and Security Management of hospitals as also for Security Service Providers and Practitioners.

 

IMPLEMENTATION/ APPROACHES/ PRESENTATION METHOD

This training course will be conducted in a classroom including lecture, video presentation, group discussion, workshop and group presentation.

 

CERTIFICATION

The assessment for certification includes theoretical self-assessment to be assessed by Accredited Assessors of the Assessment Centre – TUK CAKRA. Participant who passed from the assessment will receive a Certificate of Competency issued by LSK-K3- ICCOSH on behalf of BNSP and valid for 3 (three) years.
