Reserves and Resources Evaluation

DESCRIPTION

This is a course with the objective to provide a good understanding of evaluating and reporting oil and gas resources and reserves. SEC regulations will also be summarized by comparing important definitions with PRMS. Resources classification and categorization will be given on a framework along with a guideline for the application of these definitions.

The course will update G&G and reservoir engineers with the current deterministic and probabilistic reserves estimation methods.

PURPOSE

The following areas will be covered in some detail:

• The different international systems for definition & classification of petroleum resources and reserves
• The difference between reserves, contingent resources and prospective resources
• The different technical methods for estimating reserves and resources
• The role of petroleum economics in reserves estimation
• The project-based approach adopted for reserves estimation
• The importance of determining the discovery status and commerciality in resources classification.
• Reserves and resources from Incremental projects
• Deterministic and probabilistic methods for reserves and resources estimation
• Aggregation of reserves and resources

5. The treatment of unconventional resources
6. Changes expected in PRMS in 2017
7. Petroleum Resources definitions and classifications (SPE PRMS, SEC, CIM, Russian Classification system, etc)
8. The different systems for reporting reserves and resources
9. Volumetric methods, Material Balance Equation, Reservoir simulation & Decline Curve Analysis as tools for reserves estimation
10. Basic petroleum economics, cash flow, oil price scenarios, and economic field limit
11. The definition of the project and incremental projects in PRMS
12. Determination of project status and commerciality
